Latex Gardening Gloves
7 Answers
I've got quite a few pairs of cheap, yellow machine knitted gardening gloves that have had the finger/thumb sections dipped in green latex as part of the manufacturing process. Many pairs of these gloves were stored together in a bag. When I went to fetch a pair this afternoon, I found a number of the gloves stuck together over the latexed area and they had to be prised apart carefully to use them.
Why would latex stick together like this in a bag of used gloves. After all, I've never seen these gloves stuck together when sold on hanging cards in shops.
Thank you

Latex like most other things has a shelf life and as soon as it comes into contact with daylight, the breakdown of the rubber starts to occur.
We buy loads of these and dispose of them without a second thought.

Well, I find them useful for other things too and I rarely use them for gardening. Today, I've used them to move an awning floor made up of wooden pallets outside a caravan. I find them great to stop the splinters entering my hands. The problem with latex gloves is that they wear out in no time with rough use and the latex falls off leaving just the knitted fabric behind. The fabric has virtually no protective qualities at all - I wouldn't trust them to grasp a nettle - so they become next to useless.
Proper gardening gloves as you say, last for years. I'm pretty certain yours aren't made of latex Mexican18.
