Burst Pipes

Yesterday we had a burst pipe which resulted in hundreds of gallons on water cascading into our kitchen.
Today we have used the washing machine and after 2 washes it has tripled the fuses.
Is this because it got soaked in the downpour yesterday?
How long should we leave the machine and wall to dry out?

Well the water ran down the walls through all the lights and down the outside wall.
The washing machine sits on the back wall

Have you had an insurance assessor visit?

Definitely get an electrician to check your electrics - our insurance company insisted on that years ago when we had burst pipes.

We rent the washing machine is ours the landlord hasn’t even been out to see the house

When we had a burst tank it took quite a while to dry the walls out. The insurance supplied an industrial dehumidifier which had to be left on 24/7 for over a week.

I can't remember what happened with the electrics. This was all in our hall and stairwell.

Get your landlord to visit asap - he'll be the one with the buildings insurance so it's up to him to get the damage sorted. Meanwhile, only use electrical items/sockets/lights etc in the areas that didn't get wet.

The landlord knows about the burst pipe but has shown no interest in seeing the damage

RR, what caused the pipes to burst ? Surely not weather related.

All circuits need testing within the affected area...they should remain isolated until tested and certified.

Sounds to me as if the landlord is trying to wriggle out of what is his responsibility as a landlord. Do you know him/her? Is s/he miles away? Be persistent.

Not trying to wiggle out of anything they got an emergency plumber out!

There must be something in your tenancy agreement regarding such Major incidents, surely?

RR, but your landlord is responsible for the walls.

I have lived here so long I have no idea where the tenancy agreement is.
I will give it a chance to dry out and then contact them if still not working.
