I've never tried one of the specialist ones, but - especially at this time of year - I like a heavy duvet with extra couple of blankets on top, and I'm sure it helps me sleep, as does my electric blanket. I also use earplugs, even though it's a quiet village, and I think that helps too - the darker and quieter my bedroom, the better!
I don't know anything about weighted no bankers as I also prefer light coverings. But I do find using an eye mask helps particularly in the early mornings when it's getting lighter. My curtains aren't "blackout " curtains but still quite dark but even they let light in.
