Any tips from your good selves? We are moving home this time next week and i haven't even started to pack, where do i start? What can i pack up now that i will not need in the next 7 days and most importantly we are downsizing from a big 3 bedroom to a rather "compact and bijou" 2 bed house. I'm having heart palpitations thinking about it now? Any ideas how to make this easy on me from people who love to move home!! I do not intend doing it again!! sigh..

well, I think a good start would probably be to pack up your PC and modem, and shut the AB down until you get straight in your new Gaff. You know what AB does to you, (Just joking!)

If I were you, I would pack up the kitchen first. Leave enough plates/cups/glasses and irons out just for you and your fam, better still buy 100 paperplates and plastic cutlery. Then I would cook say seven casseroles tomorrow- include the potatoes/rice in the casserole dish , that way you don't need to wash up and you don't need to cook, thus saving you about 4 hours each day.

Start with the Attic. CHuck or rehome everything you haven't used for a year (except seasonal stuff like christmas trees and dighys.) Then go through each bedroom. fling fling fling. Don't be afraid.

Check out www.flylady.net. She has a moving house emergency list of things to do.

work from the bottom up. Even put all the kids in one bed if they are little, that way you can use one bedroom to store the boxes you have already packed.

And good luck. This is an opportunity. I would LOVE to downsize. the more space you have, the more junk you accumulate. Also, I read your other post: Don't bother getting sky when you move. Use it as an op to ditch the telly. Stick to DVD's from the video library (or regular library) and spend time doing way more cool stuff, and being together with your beloved fam.) I'm not trying to be bossy, just sharing what I did 3 years ago, and haven't ever looked back. How much will that save per month, as you don't even need a TV license, providing you detune your telly to recieve terrestial tv.) But each to their own I know....Just a thought!

And keep smiling. Itl be fine, dont worry about a thing....THinking of you, esp on the big day.

If a removal company is moving you, contact them now and get plenty of packing cases delivered in advance unless they've agreed to do all the packing for you. Get all the newspapers you can find for crockery & glasses and pack one room at a time of ornaments, books, cd's etc. Supermarkets may have supplies of empty boxes if you don't have enough but get strong tape to ensure the bottoms don't fall out with the weight of contents. And be sure to mark each box with a label on the outside showing contents and room (i.e. Lounge, Bedroom 1,) so the removal men know in which room to dump them. Bargain on everything taking five times as long as you estimated! In the kitchen pack everything except basic cultery, plates, saucepans, toaster & kettle and eat simple meals. For Moving Day keep a special box with kettle, tea coffee, toaster, milk, biscuits, tin of baked beans and tin opener and loo rolls + light bulbs & torch in case previous occupants have taken them & it's dark by the time you arrive. If you haven't already had a good "clear out"get some bin bags and start tomorrow. If you haven't used anything for a year, be ruthless & chuck it. Run your freezer down as the contents may well not survive the move without defrosting. And have you sent out your "change of adderess" notices and arranged with Post Office to redirect your mail. (Suggest minimum 12 months to avoid any chance of new occupants getting hold of your mail and risking identity theft) Oh heck, I'm already feeling as stressed as you must be, just thinking about it! Don't pack your sense of humour though. You will probably need it. Good luck and be happy in your new home.

Pack the things you are not using. I.e summer clothes, ornaments, photos, excess glasses, plates & cutlery. Clear out the loft and shed. As it gets closer you will have less and less to pack. Start clearing out junk as you are going to have less space. I am moving house and the amount of junk, clothes I got rid of is unbelievable. We have still to look in the attic.
