Mentioned this elsewhere, but thought I'd open a separate thread.
It's bin collection day in my village and they usually come by 10am, but no sign. There are usually 3 or 4 in the crew, but as they have to travel together in the front cab of the lorry they would not want to be doing that, so how can they operate?
I just mentioned in the other thread that while we've had bin collections...last week...there's been no recycling for 3 weeks. It's going everywhere now.
All the bin collectors wore gloves and had masks on. As the roads will be a lot clearer than normal, they may operate as one driver, one collector, but who knows.
Our recycling bin was collected a day late last week, but our normal household waste was collected as usual this morning.
I don’t know how it works in the cab but refuse has to be collected.
Same as Barsel, I'm in Manchester too, our green bins (food/garden) waste aren't being collected until further notice. Other bins have been collected as normal though.
Our Bin collection day is Tuesday, has been ok up till now, will see what happens tomorrow. There's not much the crew can do apart from wearing masks, they always wear gloves, whether they are wearing plastic gloves under the normal ones I don't know.
Just had an email to say that with immediate effect our garden waste collection has been suspended, which is a shame as it’s due tomorrow and everyone has put their full bins out. Oh well.
Refuse collection is seen as a public service and the workers can be in the cab at the same time, much the same as ambulance staff. Carers who need to work together to lift a person, shop workers who can't avoid everyone when they are stocking shelves by necessity need to be close to others.
