Growing Celery From A Used Stalk Stump

I have tried this and so far it is going well. I have put a couple of stumps into a shallow bowl of water and the celery has started to sprout from the top again. However I have read that I should be putting it in soil when the roots have grown - my issue being that they don't seem to be sprouting roots. So should I keep waiting or put them in soil now? The bottoms of the stumps seem to be suffering a bit from being in water all the time.
Thanks.

Thanks MargoTester.
I don't think I will wait for roots and just bung it into the ground now. Nothing to lose!
Very true :-)
This chap includes celery and puts it straight in the ground.

... or just buy more celery when you need it.

Did you hear that the war is over?
I think growing on from what you have indtead of binning it is a great thing to do.
No chance it works with steak I suppose?
Now that would be good Doug.
