Cordless Hoover

Hi would like to know the opinions of people who have a cordless Hoover of there suggestion of which is the best for power and running time . There are so many good and bad reviews of different makes and models. I would be grateful for some advice on make and model to help me make my choice. price is not really essential but quality and performance a must .thanks i

I've got this and I find the suction to be more powerful than the Dyson I had a few years back.

I'm looking for one too, I have a Dyson downstairs and a Vax upstairs but the stairs are a nightmare to do.

I have the Gtech AirRam and I love it, would hate to be without it. The only slight negative is that the dust collector is small and needs emptying often, but it is easy to do and a small price to pay for such a powerful, handy cleaner.

I also have the hand-held Gtech but find it too heavy for me as I have carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis. It's also not as powerful as I'd like it to be, so I wouldn't buy it again, but the AirRam - I definitely would.

I worry about the battery life of cordless vacuum cleaners - they are expensive to replace.
Having struggled to clean the stairs with heavy vacuums and inadequate handhelds I have found a solution that work for me. I use a broom to sweep the stairs from top to bottom then vacuum the bits up. Simple, cheap and effective.

I've been lucky, I bought a second hand one off eBay, with the intention of getting it to have a spare battery, but so far the original battery is doing fine, and I've used the cleaner every day for a few years now.

The GTech, windywillow? They seem plasticky and flimsy to me

We have a Dyson cordless which is not to bad on picking up and battery life but we also have a Shark corded which is much better and it comes apart for doing the stairs. Don't think you can beat a good corded one.

Barry, it was recommended to me but I had reservations, so I bought it from Argos with the thought that I would be able to return it without hassle if I was unhappy with it. I was pleasantly surprised - I was very happy with it.

'try a roomba aka a cat transporter. They just trundle around until they are full of dust or you move them to another room.

Wouldn't be without our Dyson...but (if you look at the latest Which? tests - and don't forget that they test them and compare them against each other) you'll find the Best Buys are from Dyson, Samsung, Bosch and Tineco.
They don't rate the performance of G-Tech , Vax or Hoover.
(Incidentally, Tineco are only available from Amazon in the UK...or, at least, were earlier in the year).

I find the GTech easily the best- particularly as I have a lot of long-haired animals (and pets). When I went to replace it, I first tried the Dyson and then the Shark, but ended up sending both back for being too bulky, heavy and overrated, so went back to a GTech.

I have a gTech that I bought about 5 years ago, and like well enough. At the time I wanted something very lightweight as carrying a corded upstairs was getting scary. I bought a corded Shark about 15 months ago as getting up the pet hair was impossible. The Shark, while very powerful and excellent with getting up the pet hair, is ridiculously heavy and awkward to manage. It's collecting dust upstairs. I have just a low shedding dog now so I'm using the gTech again.

We've go a Roomba (but no cat!)

You set him going, block off areas you don't want him going by using his Lighthouse/Virtual Wall.

Empty him when he finishes.

Only thing is - doesn't like black carpets (tried to do the boot of the car - think it must have confused the cliff sensors (ie. the things thar are there to detect when overhanging the stairs)

Sis has a Dyson and I gave it a go when round at her place, but IMO it was not as good as my Gtech.

I have a cordless Dyson and its perfect for us. I think its a Cyclone Absolute. Had it a couple of years now and cant be 100% sure I've remembered the name correctly.

It suits me but we might differ in that we have a very small home. Four small carpeted rooms on one level, and a vinyl kitchen floor. No pets.

The battery has never run out on me with such a small space. The machine unclips to give a hand held vacuum to do the car or the stairs if you have them, and ther are plenty of the usual attachments. The dispsenser is quite small on this model. Again its OK for a small space but will need emptying more than once if vacuuming a whole house. Great suction and very, very light to carry.

bluetoon, you must be disappointed, not a single recommendation for a Hoover just alternative makes. Presumably you are aware of these

but I can't help you with choosing. Although I/we had a Hoover vacuum cleaner for two or three decades (it was excellent but the hose went, obsolete so end of use), since then they have been various other makes and all of them corded.

If it helps, I too have a Gtech AirRam and love it. I bought it along with the hand held one which is great for doing the stairs. Good suction and the upright is very light to move around.
