When it has reached temperature try lifting the machine and swirling it about so that the water in the tank splashes all around the inside, switch off and allow to cool. Once cooled down drain the machine upside down over your bath and keep refilling with cold water and swirling and draining (no more heat) until no more 'goo' comes out ( I was amazed at the gunk that came out of mine). Then refill as normal and give it another go.
As far as your comment about always draining the machine, I never drain mine as I use it with the iron attachment and that would be a total pain to do each time. I just use the Kal-Stop on every refill and do the rinsing procedure as above every 5 or 6 fills.
Good luck
Thanx for your answers. I tried cleaning it out and yes loads of gunk came out but unfortunately it still wouldn't work. I have contacted the polti website, spoken to them and I'm pleased to report that their repair service is excellent. A courier will be picking it up from my home, it will be repaired and returned to me by courier all for a set price of 89.
Again many thanx for the answers received. Sue
