Rear Garden Fence

My sister has recently purchased a new build shared ownership house that is almost finished. The query is, we noticed that the rear garden dividing fence has been erected this side of the drainpipe, so her drain pipe is in next doors garden, so they have theirs plus my sisters, one either side of their house. Now, as each household is responsible for the maintenance, surely the fence should be erected a bit further over so the drainpipe in your own garden, otherwise you'd be going into next door if there was a problem, as there often is with new builds. Also, it reduces the width of the garden by about 2ft. Who would she need to speak to about this? Thanks in advance

Speak to the builders and the developers. My house is the same, there is just one drain between two properties. It hasn't caused any problems and my neighbour knows we have to share the cost of any repairs or emergency work.

all four properties have their own drain but hers is in next doors garden, which really should be a part of her garden, because the fence has been put up too far over,making it so they have 2 drains in their garden next door, theirs and hers.

Are you more bothered about the position of the drainpipe, or the fact that your sister's garden is 2ft narrower?
Any drainpipe that is not in 'your' property can hardly be described as 'your' drainpipe.
You could confirm with the Builders/Devlopers that the fence is in the correct position but your sister could benefit from never having to be responsible for the upkeep of a drainpipe.

jackthehat, why would they deliberately put 2 drainpipes in one garden, when all the other houses have one and of course none in my sisters garden and yes, the 2ft less garden could be an issue. If its part of her garden then surely shes entitled to it.

The fence has been put up where it has for a reason. Your sister needs to make sure that the fence is where it was always intended to be.....and to forget about the downpipes.
