I have a bannister on the left side of stairs but am now thinking of a second one on the right side to help me ease up stairs when carrying anything, clothes, jugs of water for the night etc.

I will contact my handyman - this is a first for me - is there anything I need to look out for.

Just make sure it doesn't narrow your stairway too much

oh no Barry it is quite a wide staircase - tobh I was thinking of quite a slim one - would that suffice. There are some on Amazon but I'll leave it to my handyman and see what he says.
My friend has 2 , but she had them done at the same time so they look better as they are both the same.
If you need a second bannister for your own safety, don't hesitate to get one installed. Even a rope bannister would suffice https://www.bannisterropes.com/

i found 2 banisters handy, but not if i wanted to carry stuff up. I have a cross body bag i use to carry things up and down the stairs
