Gtech Air Ram

I've got one of these upright vacuums which I've had for around 4/5 years now. It seems to have lost suction as it keeps chucking bits back out. There was a lot of hair wrap which I removed but that hasn't helped.

Is it normal for vacuums to lose suction after a time? It happened to my old Dyson as well.

YEs, the 'innards' become clogged - even in Dysons.

I just stripped down er indors' V11, in the past I have stripped and replaced bits on all the Dysons we have had. Work once done. One, which we still have as my work cleaner is like TRiggers broom!

Check the filters first though and also look for fractured hoses or holes.

The V11 doesnt have a 'fan belt' it has a small motor directly on the brush. Not sure haw the Gtech is built though, never stripped down one of those

The motor on my Gtech sort of went 'boom' one day and there was smoke. It was good at picking up cat hairs - there were probably cat hairs in the motor, they got everywhere else.

Fit a new motor. I had to do it with one of the Dysons we had.

Work like a dream again :-)

Lol, I have no idea where the filter or the motor is located or even what I'm looking for! Will hunt these down later after I finish work :o)

Not surprised it has lost suction if you've never cleaned the filters!

The Gtech team are brilliant at giving advice, I've had to use them a couple of times - got a new battery even though my machine was just out of warranty. Do you have the instruction book? The machines usually come to pieces where there are bright green bits. Could be the filter needs replacing or even just cleaning.

You should give the filter a good clean every time you empty the machine.

Apparently, people buy things and throw instruction manuals away...4 or 5 years and don't know where the filter is!

The filter is inside the part you remove for emptying. It is down the middle look at the opposite side from the opening end bit for emptying pull it out. If not been emptied for 4 5 years must be pretty clogged up. I have spare filter always wash and have clean one.

Thanks everyone. I keep all manuals and warranties so I know it's somewhere.........but where?!

I have the one Giggsie has described so will look for the filter in the pull out cylinder.

Just curious, how long did your previous vacuum cleaner last?

A lot longer than my current one, Barry. Took longer for the suction to go though. Not sure why as I had it when I had my cats.

Our Dyson stop sucking once. I traced it to a cat's toy mouse stuck deep inside.
