Turning Off The Heating

Lots of people understandably turning off the heating in their homes in order to save on rising energy bills. Please forgive my ignorance (it’s far from my area of expertise), is this achieved by just turning your thermostat to zero, or do you also have to turn down the heating dial on your boiler?

This time of year you won't need to turn it to zero! Just do what you'd normally do I suppose

We've turned our thermostat down to 15 and our heating hasn't been on for the past few weeks.

Your heating controller will have separate switches for hot water and heating; just turn-off the heating. You will still need the hot water for showers etc.

Depends on what sort of heating you have and the set up. My gas central heating is old and works on a timer, regardless of the temperature.
I have to switch mine off on the controller. It can't heat just the water so I switch the immersion heater on when the central heating goes off.

Please don’t be too harsh in turning heating down especially if you are elderly ,unwell and vulnerable.
There is nothing worse than being cold ?

We use the simplest method. We have a combi boiler and leave the boiler alone with heating and how water available. When we don't need heating, we turn the thermostat on the wall down to maybe 15. That means the radiators will not get hot unless the temperature in the room with the thermostat falls below 15 degrees. You could turn it to any lowish temperature, including zero.
