If you're like me and hate the smell of bleach, what so you use to clean your sinks and put down the sink hole to make it smell fresh? Even if I use a cif type cleaner the sink still smells horrid after an hour or so.

Try lemon juice but do you have "blowback" from bathroom drains. Boiling water might help
Question Author
I've tried lemon and pine disinfectants but they don't seem to keep the nasty smell away.
tigger; if you think that bleach smells horrible, why would you expect it to make your sinkhole smell fresh? I think the horrible smell is probably the pong that comes from the gunge you send down your plughole being attacked by the cleaner. I can't recommend anything that'll overcome that problem; maybe stay out of the bathroom for an hour?

Eh?

When did I say I send gunge down the sink hole and where did the bathroom come into it?
One man's sink is another man's wash basin...

Sorry, I meant to say that the smells come from the kitchen sink, not bathroom.
tigger. Plugholes smell if there's gunge down there. I presumed it might be the bathroom washbasin, but I was apparently wrong. If it is a kitchen sink, then it's even more likely that there is gunge down there, especialy if you are an omnivore and bits of fat and meat go down.
It might be that there is no gunge down there, and that the smell is coming up from the drain, but that wouldn't happen unless the s-trap below the plughole is not doing its job.
I know you didn't say that you sent gunge down the plughole, but these things happen. Toothpaste drips from your pearly-whites; hairs from your hair-wash sessions; general kitchen stuff.
I can't recommend a solution, I'm afraid.
Sorry.
I think most products will have a certain aroma, even the old fashioned ones such as bi-carb of soda and white vinegar. You just have to find one that offends your olfactory sense less than others.
One solution might be to pour some cleaner down the plug hole last thing at night and then run for your bed.
it sounds more like a problem with your drains. Have you tried going outside and putting the bleach directly into the drain? Try Zoflora down the sink last thing. If the smell comes back it will be the drains.

The smell I'm trying to describe is the same one that you sometimes get on cutlery, glassware and dishes if not washed properly. I quite often smell it after the dishwasher has finished but I wouldn't describe it as a drainy smell. Oh and before anyone mentions it I use plenty of washing liquid and rinse properly afterwards :o)

Maybe I will try scented bleach down the sink hole, close the plug, close the doors and run up to bed.
We've just had our drains serviced, but we had a blockage. Not cheap but worth it.
I use washing soda. Pour into plughole, wait a little while and empty a kettle fullof boiling water down.
I used to use caustic soda as a drain cleaner but it seems to have been banned from shops now. So you end up buying much more expensive & less effective Mr Muscle type products. I don't mind the smell of bleach so bleach & boiling water for a quick clean.

I think I've got some soda crystals somewhere!
Sink and plughole unblocker is brilliant even if your sink isn't blocked it cleans it really well . Failing that get a man in to give you a good Rodding ;-)
