Try filling the inner cup with iced water and then lower the outer cup into a saucepan of boiling water. Don't let the hot water overflow into the inside where it might also heat up the inner cup. Finally give them a tap with a wooden spoon.


DON'T use boiling water!!!! hot tap water only or the china will break! doh gen, we're not talking tesco value cups here! lol
gentle version pour a little oil into the place where the cups are stuck, (wd40 if you have it) then put in the airing cupboard for a few hours

nfn, I think you exaggerate the fragility of cups.


I regularly pour boiling water straight from a kettle onto a tebag in a cup. I'd be knee deep in shards by now if they are as delicate as you suggest.


OK, If they are expensive cups, then it may be wise to take a little more care than I originally implied.

gen, ice will drastically reduce the temp of the inside cup (which is the intention) therefore the outside cup (if china) will shatter if introduced to BOILING water
