Power Flush Ch System

Afternoon,
My CH boiler (vaillant) was installed 14 years ago by a very knowledgeable plumber (recommended) , who gave the rads a powerflush before the system "went live". Just lately a couple of the rads have not been "performing well" and I was wondering if it might be worth having the rads powerflushed during the summer months before next winter sets in. If anybody thinks this might be worthwhile, do they have any idea of the potential cost to do this ?? I thought maybe around the £400 mark, but then I might be out of touch !! Thanks in advance.

Before you spend money, have you checked to see if the radiators need bleeding? Do they get hot at the bottom and cold at the top?

Atheist, yes I've bled the guilty rads and checked the TRVs on all the rads. None of the above has helped. Thanks for asking.

fbg; Why have you had the heating on? Where I am we haven't needed it for many weeks. Where are the underperforming rads? In what way do they underperform? Do they not get hot at all?

Atheist, in answer to your questions : We have been on holiday and when we returned the house was cold so we put the heating on to warm it up. There are only 2 underperforming rads, both in the lounge.One gets reasonably hot the other just gets warm. I had an engineer from Corgi attend last September who diagnosed a stuck TRV. He took the top off of both valves (one on each rad) and constantly pressed the brass piece that was visible, up and down for about 5 minutes. He shut off every other rad in the house and then fired up. All was ok until recently when the one rad in particular didn't really get very warm. Pressure does not apply as we do not have a Combi boiler, ours is a condensing boiler.

fbg, Condensing boiler does not rule out Combi boiler. Do you have a hot water cylinder? Is there a pressure gauge on the boiler, or a pressure reading on the boiler display screen? How is your hot water produced?

Yes I do have a hot water cylinder and there is no pressure guage or pressure reading on the boiler. The boiler heats the hot water.

As you had problems before my first port of call would be the TRV. Some of them do seem to be troublesome and stick continually, especially when left.

Unless you have an unbelievable about of muck in your system (unlikely) then a flush will do nothing.

Is it possible that the rads that didn't get hot were in rooms that were warm enough already, and so didn't call for heat? I'm only asking to try to avoid you spending a lot on something not necessary.
