A Poorly Avocado Plant.
3 Answers
Last August I planted 2 avocado seeds (from fruit we'd eaten). One came up well and strong and was potted on as a Christmas gift to daughter in an expensive, large container for their conservatory. Named 'Allan' for some reason, it is doing fine and is now about 3 ft. tall.
The other seed never showed signs of germinating so I didn't even empty the pot but this spring I stuck a few Sweet-Pea seeds in it. Immediately the avocado began growing strongly and I was very pleased and have potted it on in our conservatory. All going swimmingly (18" high) until 2 weeks ago.
It was by the s-facing glass and one day I noticed edges of some leaves had gone black, curly and brittle. I broke them off, moved plant to a shadier spot and watered well. It has put outnew top leaves that look OK, but today I saw that some of the older of the new ones had also started with this grey-black curling at the edges. It's well watered and away from burning light/heat. Any answers please? I'm baffled. I've grown them before in France and had no problem.

I started growing avocado plants about 2 years ago. At the moment I have about 5 I think. All grown from the stone. The biggest one is about 2 feet high. Most of them at some point have had leaves like this. I’ve never known why. I’ve had them in the shade, in the sun, well watered. I just snap them off lol.
Thank you both very much indeed. One of the ones I grew and kept in France had to be topped at 10' - so it sent out side-shoots and it was neglected, covered in dust, but kept growing into a magnificent plant. So I was rather expecting this one to be fairly trouble-free.
I'll persist with it. Thanks again.
