I can't help with "gardening" nicebloke, but as a ladder-jockey, I would prefer to get up there with a garden hoe and scrape it off :o)
If you simply spray the moss on your roof with a moss-killing agent, instead of having green (water-retaining) live moss of your roof you'll just have brown (water-retaining) dead moss up there. You need to remove the moss first and then spray it with moss killer, to try to inhibit the growth of further moss.

Why do you want to remove the moss?

Thanks all. Atheist, it restricts drainage of water from the roof tiles, and clogs gutters up.
Could you hire a jet wash and spray it off?

By what I read RH, jet washing can damage the tiles?
nicebloke. I have the same problem, although it doesn't cause enough concern to me to consider paying to get it sorted. I think that birds take some of it, and some falls down onto our back patio. I believe it's a sign of resonable air quality to have moss. I'd be interested to hear what you decide to do. Good luck

You cant always see the damage moss does. Its true like you say, some of it does die off and drop down into the gutter, hence having the gutters cleaned out. The problem is every year the moss growth will increase and finds its way between and even under the tiles. Moss retains moisture/ rain water, in turn drips down onto the felt that you see in your loft, in time rotting the felt. Thats why its important that rain water can freely flow down the roof tiles without restriction, into the gutter. All the above is one of the reasons some people suffer black mould on ceilings and walls.Damp and wet felt in the loft results in droplets of water on ceiling.
For a more permanent solution - Copper strip placed each side of ridge tiles. The metal interacts with rainwater to produce a solution which deters mosses, lichen etc
