I keep mine on a bright windowsill except when they are in bud or flowering when I bring them into a light but warmer spot. Most of the houseplants ones are surprisingly cold tolerant and I find they flower year after year because it's light on the roots they need more than the warmth.
Ours do well on the kitchen windowsill, it does get cold at night.
Good luck (I've never been successful, probably because I haven't got central heating.)

Orchids are tropical plants, and they prefer warm and humid conditions. Keeping them away from cold windowsills is generally a good idea, as exposure to cold temperatures can cause the buds to drop, or inhibit the plant's growth. The ideal temperature range for orchids is between 60-80°F (15-26°C).

Orchids also prefer bright, indirect light. Placing them close to a window with filtered or indirect sunlight is ideal. However, if the windowsill is exposed to direct sunlight, the orchids should be placed farther away from the window to avoid sun damage.

It's also important to keep the orchids away from drafts, as these can also cause the buds to drop. Additionally, make sure that the orchids have good drainage, and that their roots are not sitting in water.

To maintain good humidity for your orchids, you can place a tray of water near the plants or use a humidifier. Orchids also benefit from regular misting to increase humidity.

In summary, it is best to keep your orchids away from cold windowsills, and in a warm, humid, and well-lit location, if you want to maintain the blooming of the buds.
All my orchids (6 of them) repeat flower and I've had them for several years. Apart from only ever watering with rainwater I don't look after them at all. I've never fed them nor re-potted and they seem to like that. They all sit on West facing windowsills.
