Black Mold On Bath Sealant

Hi, does anyone have any tips for cleaning off black mold from the silicone sealant around the bath? I can get it off the grout between the tiles but not the sealant. Thanks

If it's bedded into the sealant then it needs to be removed and new sealant put in it's place. If it's just starting then a mould and mildew cleaner like Cilit Bang may work, there are others on the market.

I couldn't remove it and I had tried everything. I had to remove and replace, much easier in the long run

Have you try scrubbing with bleach using stiff toothbrush

In future remember that most bath and shower mould starts off a strange pinky orange colour and it is easier to remove then with any mould removing spray

Exactly what I do, minty. Leave the bleach on after scrubbing for a while.

I tried the toothbrush on my sealant and it didn't work, tried a nail brush too. It works everywhere else, just not on the sealant

Use a thick household bleach

May have to replace..if the bleach doesn't work.. put down leave for half an hour .scrub ..repeat..

One other tip is to fill the bath before putting new sealant on as this will replicate it when it is in use. Some recommend doing this others not but I have always found it to work well.

I always do that, shedman, otherwise the weight just breaks the seal

Snap barry. Always worth spending a bit extra time at start to save work in the long term.

i put cotton wool or toilet paper over the sealant and pour bleach over it ,press into sealant ,leave for a while then rinse off

Bleach doesn't work - never will - have tried all the suggested methods - even left the thick bleach on for 24 hrs - dynamite wouldn't shift it.
Dig it out and replace is the only solution.

I wonder if it’s something to do with hard and soft water? We live in a fairly hard water area.
