Washing Machine Capacity
14 Answers
We have had our Hotpoint (or is it Hoover.. I can’t remember offhand) for the best part of 30 years and it’s only had to have the mechanic out a handful of times. We think it’s now coming to the end of its active life, so we are on the look out for a replacement. The instruction manual is long gone so I don’t have a clue to its specifications… does anyone know how I can work out its drum capacity, please. It doesn’t seem that big, and we want to replace it with a bigger drum capacity model. Cheers, Chox

You could put a load in the machine then remove it and weigh and weigh the clothes.
If you put them in a bag or bags, you could either weigh the bag(s) or weigh yourself with and without the bag(s) and work out the weight of the clothes that way.

We have a 10kg model which is fine for most things and one of the bigger capacity drums but what the advertising doesn't tell you is that there are only a few of the settings on the machine that it can actually take that amount. Most of the washes are for smaller loads and if you put the full 10kg in it wont clean properly. Most of the new ones are like this and what the engineer told us is that the older machines were much better and more reliable than the new ones.
chokkie, I am banging the Ebac drum primarily because they are genuinely made, not just assembled, in the UK. Some models have a 7 year warranty that includes parts and labour and every machine comes with a 60 day buy back guarantee. One of the few manufacturers to still make hot fill machines, if that is what you want. Cold fill only, too.
The downside is the price. They are not amongst the cheapest.
Their website has all the details and a video of their factory, worth a look

Thanks for this recommendation - not so fussed about the price (and I doubt that any new machine would last for half as long as we've had this Hoover "clockwork"/analogue washer), just something of larger capacity. does any one in AB-land have a Hoover softwave 800 washer only (Model AC326) that they just might have the manual for. Can't seem to find it anywhere on line ... Cheers, Chox.
I can't find a manual for that particular model and as it's so old I would be surprised if anyone here could help. I can't even find any reference to it on the Hoover site but you could try entering the product code here:
