Recommend a new combi boiler?

Hi all. I have been havin a few problems with my existing Ariston Eurocombi boiler and i would like to change it. Can anybody suggest a replacement which isn't going to break the bank? Looking to spend no more than �500 on one. I have a 3 bed house with 7 rads and one bathroom. Thanks for any help

�500 should cover it but check out your local plumbers merchants, sometimes they have new but old model stock that they discount quite heavily.

A major additional cost of course, will be a price of employing a CORGI-registered plumber to do the switch for you. This might be another �500 or so. Try and find a way of re-using the existing flue arrangement and run the new boiler into it. Modifying flues can be a significant part of the labour time.

Don't forget that regulations which came in in February 2005 mean you now have to fit a condensing boiler, be it a conventional or combi type. These are not cheap and it really does pay to buy the very best you can afford and PLEASE do NOT get an older model. Ask your Corgi installer how many condensing boilers he has fitted (they can be tricky to fit). We have just had to replace a 10 yr old Vaillant combi (a flue part we needed is no longer available and yes we searched everywhere!). The new condensing combi is much more efficient so we feel the cost has been worth it.

I have been told that worcester combi boilers are the best you can get at the moment.Good luck

It is not quite true that you now have to fit a condensing boiler. There are exceptions if it is impractical or too expensive.

Hi all. Thanks for your answers. After speaking to the gas engineer i have gone and bought a Baxi condensing combi boiler. Cost me �533.00 which included a timer, flue and some inhibitor. Apparently Baxi are a recommended manufacturer so fingers crossed. Being fitted this saturday, costing �200 to fit with all the relevant corgi documents completed.
