I need to replace the tap washer on our basin tap,it's the lever type that you push down,i can see a silver stud under the lever on the body of the tap, will the screw to take the top of the tap off be under this,if so how do you get the stud out,is some kind of spring under the lever that you press down to turn the tap on.thanks in advance for any useful information/suggestions.

The stud is a removable plug, covering a screw securing the lever – it can be removed with a sharp ended tool, prizing it off.

Lever taps use a ceramic cartridge (like in the Screwfix link) and not a conventional washer arrangement.

It can be difficult to get the right size, even though Screwfix claims the cartridge suitable for most lever taps.
