Squeaky Floorboards

Hi all, I have a big squeaky floorboard problem (chipboard panels) upstairs and have read some great responses to similar questions. My worry is replacing the carpet after I've done the work. Shall I even bother attempting to put it back down or would the carpet company come back purely to fit it back securely?

If it's a patterned carpet, you're likely not to get it evenly stretched and it will appear wavy in the pattern. Additionally, the frustration level at trying to learn a new skill, such as carpet laying, can quickly reach the boiling point. You'd need to compare the obvious downside(s) to the additional cost of having it professionaly replaced...
