Hi JJ. Further to recent discussions about perhaps either moving or getting downstairs/outside bathroom, I wanted to let you know that last week I had a stair lift installed. You had previously said that you didn't want a stair lift because it would take too long to get up the stairs.

I timed mine today. I have 13 stairs with a 90° turn. It takes approximately 40 seconds to get from the bottom to the top of the stairs. If you had straight stairs it would be quicker than that (it slows down to go round the corner).

I wonder if this would prevent you having to move or do building work or buy something super expensive. I am renting the stairlift for a year, and it costs approximately £1000 to rent it. From outside this seems like a perfect solution - you could stay in the home that you've been in so long, maxi could stay where he knows, compared to everything else you suggested it's a really cheap alternative..

Wow bednobs - I thought it would take a lot longer than that. When my very sprightly FIL was discovered to need serious on the veins in his legs MrSmow  & I did discuss between us whether we shud suggest a stairlift if surgery didn't go according to plan (thankfully it did).

Glad you're happy with your stair lift, bednobs.

Nothing worse than crossing your legs because you can't quite face the herculean task of climbing upstairs to the loo.

I bet it's been a while since you walked up the stairs in 40 seconds.
