With his majesty's approval 😉

I thought the need for new housing has been known for a long time. And *not* for "invaders" as you put it.

Of course some will be given to our new friends (who hate us).  Where else will they live, cant keep them in hotels forever.

Gonna be a lot of hotels going out of business when the incomers move out. Of course the owners will be laughing all the way to the bank.

My new jack Russell is called Bradford.

“Work on new towns to begin by 2029, minister says”

Let’s assume that the minister’s pipe dream comes true.

If work begins just in time for the next General Election, it will be at least two years before  many (if any) of the new homes are available.

In that time, the UK population is forecast to grow by almost three million people. Almost 100% of that growth will be driven by immigration. Migrants do not want to live in “new towns” and the likelihood is that the new homes will be occupied by those who currently live where the migrants want to settle (principally in the middle of large towns and cities).

The chances of many, if any, of those newcomers having the funds to buy or rent any of those new homes, (or those vacated by people already here) at market values is vanishingly low.

This housebuilding programme, if it ever materialises, is being undertaken simply to accommodate migrants. Quite who is to ultimately pay for it has not been made clear, but one thing’s for sure – it won’t be the new arrivals and it won’t be the developers.

Meanwhile in other news, the UK GDP unexpectedly grew by  massive 0.1% in the second half of 2024. In that same period, the population grew by approximately 0.4% meaning the GDP per head (and hence the overall standard of living) continues its inexorable march downwards.
