Tax Implication On Surrendering Insurance Policy

My insurer advises that my policy "qualifies" which "tends to mean they qualify to be paid tax free". They go on the say:
"We are not tax experts though, so for confirmation of this, it wll be best checking with a tax expert or the HMRC." Anyone know the answer please?
