Blood Stain Removal

Any suggestions on how I can remove a small bloodstain from a velvet cushion? The cushion cover is washable but Would appreciate any suggestions on what to use. The stain is basically a small blood dot.

When I went to classes doing embroidery on linen and using sharp needles (and frequently pricking my finger) the Tutor told me that one's own saliva would remove the blood. Only one's own. It seemed to work, although I have to say that I never asked anyone else to contribute. Good luck

If it's a fresh blood stain you can use milk - the alkalinity of the milk counteracts the acidity of the blood, I understand. I've used it and it works. In this case, where the stain has set, you could try shampoo - I've just found this on Google: http://momo.essortment.com/bloodstainremo_rvqc.htm

Well it depends on the reason for removing the stain, is it to make the cushion look nice and restore it to good condtion or is it to make sure that DNA analysis and matching cannot be carried out?

As it's washable I'd go that route. Follow the instructions on the care label and use Vanish liquid in the wash (follow instructions on container) - I find this is fantastic for removing virtutally all stains, even on delicate fabrics as it is effective at low temperatures, so give it a go.

I've always found the new Oxyclean powders that are out very good for stains.

Best way to get blood out of things is to soak it in cold water with lots of salt in it, then wash as normal
