Have just bought a new Breville electric kettle which has a "Keep Warm" facility. Will it use more electricity keeping the water warm & bringing it to the boil occasionally, or is it more economical to just switch on and boil the water when I specifically need it?

It`s pretty obvious it will use more electricity if you have it on `stand-by` all day. It would appear to be designed for a speedy boil when you need it. Just think of a taxi tootling around town all day at 4m.p.h. and then speeding up when it gets a fare.
I have the latest copy of 'Which' magazine, and they cover this issue, they advise not to use it, as Misterbus says, and you thought, while on this setting, the kettle is using electricity constantly, they advise its better just to put just the amount of water you need in.

The more you boil water the more concentrated the minerals etc. become, that's why when making a bottle of baby milk you should always use fresh water.

I know that there's a kettle that you can fill it up and it just puts in the boil chamber the amount you need for a cup. I don't know what it's called though
