Condensation on windows

Does anyone know how to stop condensation. I live in a flat (rented) that has metal window frames, when it is cold the condensation is terrible, how can I stop/ease it. I don't have double glazing and especially in the bedroom th window is always open slightly.

There is no easy answer I know of, except putting cheap secondary double glazing on the inside. The condensation forms because the cold metal frame is a good conductor of heat and is at the same temperature as the outside air. Warm moisture-laden air from your room is landing on the metal, being cooled and the vapour condenses as water droplets. Ventilation helps, as does trying to avoid excessive water vapour (clothes drying inside, leaving door open from the bathroom after a shower). But in the winter this just isn't possible.

You can pick up cheap damp-absorbing materials these days (can't think what they're called, they come in a rectangular box about nine inches long, three wide, and the material is replaceable I think). The idea is, you take it to the bathroom and drain (or squeeze?) the water out of it each day. It might not need replacing, not sure, perhaps it carries on working til it falls apart?. Might be worth getting a few to put on the window sills, they're only a pound or two each I think.

Dehumidifying, that's the word! Check at DIY stores. Not a problem solver, but it will help.
