Tumble dry filter

I saw on a programme a while back that although you can take off the lint that your tumble dryer filter pickes up,it doesn't necessarily unclog it. I remember they poured water on it and it just laid on the top. They then did something to it to clean it, but I can't remember what! Any ideas?

Shouldn't lose sleep over this, but you could try a very soft brush if it's bothering you
