What i need to know is, what are the regulations with regard to protecting your property by means of Barbed wire on walls or glass cemented into the tops of walls, etc etc. you know what i mean. The reason being, i have seen many old houses with glass bedded into their walls, albeit a crude method of keeping people out of your property, i feel It is justified. anyone have any ideas?
hhmm you'd have to check with your local council though i do know that if this sort of protection is used on a boundry wall you will be liable for any damage or injury cause by it's being there. you will need special planning if you intend to build a wall at the front of your property above three feet (rear six feet) and to use glass below this would be dangerous so it's probably not going to happen. Contact your local council's building control who will advise you best.
It's not necessarily illegal - as sft42 said, the main problem is liability should someone (including Burglars) injure themselves on the glass/barbed wire (for example if the fire brigade had to access the property over such a wall or a child climbing over to retrieve a football).
We used to have a problem of kids climbing over our side fence. There was a police advice van in our village one day and I asked if I could put barbed wire on top of the fence (I thought it would be a definate no). The policeman said yes and that he'd done so himself! Anyway, never got round to doing it and the offending kids have now grown up (but are still in my little black book!).
