I am trying to work out how big some of my rooms are to buy some ceramic floor tiles, and laminate flooring.
could someone tell me how to work out the size in square ft, and also square metres?
Many thanks, : )

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Draw a floor plan of the room (doesn't have to be accurate, just a sketch), then split it into regular areas. For example, extend the longest lines so that you have a big square in the middle, leaving smaller ones where there are alcoves, etc.
Then, for each square, measure it carefully (on the floor this time) and multiply the length by the width. So if it's 12 feet long by 7 feet wide, that's 12 X 7=84 sq.ft. Do this for the smaller squares too, then add them all up. This will give you the total floor area. Do the same thing again, using metres (if you want both measurements), and you'll end up with a total in sq.m.
You'll have to be aware you might need to allow for extra tiles/flooring panels since some will need to be cut to fit against edges, but start with the main measurement, then work on the details.
I hope this helps.
