The secret is not to have them too upright - they are meant to be at an angle.How tight is your rope because you should still be able to peg your clothes on without them being ground level.The prop is only there to elevate the clothes a bit.
Am I on the same wavelength here.Maybe picked you up wrong but if not thats my advice.
It is possible to buy a type of extenderble metal cloths line which actually clips onto the line to stop it falling down, it also has a rubber bung on the end to minimise slipage (sory i dont know where they sell these, maybe someone else can help here)
It also helps if you lean your prop in the direction of which way the wind is blowing, but if you have big billowing sheets you have a fight on your hands, in this case its best kept tight rather than slack..
