when sorting some old receipts the other I came across an old receipt for rumbelow's and civic radio shops. I also had one for cecil gee and the fifty shilling tailors I know that the fifty shilling tailors went on to become burtons does anybody know what happened to the other shops and also does anybody else remember old national shops like the abvove names please and jog all our memories
Rumbelows! Not heard of that for years - not really sure of the other two but I remember Chelsea Girl, Hintons, Fine Fare......funny isn't it how these all change names and everybody seems to own everybody else somewhere along the line...
That is so spooky, yesterday at work a man called up and I asked his name and he said 'Mr Rumbelow' and I said 'as in the old television shop which nobody would remember now !' and he said 'oh I remember it' and we went on to have a conversation about it. Oh what about Bourne and Hollingsworth, Lyons Corner House, the ABC cafes, Marshall & Snelgrove, oh and those little sweet shops where you would say 'two ounces of pineapple chunks please' ....
