Flaking paint

Last spring I painted an exterior wall with masonary paint. In the recent very cold weather a large patch of paint just fell off the wall. Today, after the rain, I notice that most of the rest of the paint is bubbling and soft. The wall is brick which has been rendered and in the last 25 years I have had no trouble at all. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I treat the wall before repainting? Many thanks.

Did you treat the wall with a bonding solution first,if not you should have put some sort of sealer or bonding coat on before painting it,scrap all the flaking paint off and start again,but i would leave it till the weather is a bit warmer.

Thanks for that. No I painted on top of the previous paint so it looks like a long hard job for me later in the year - and I will certainly wait until the weather is warmer.

clean off all the loose flaky paint and paint the walls with a good quality stabalising solutiion you can then paint on top of this it shouldn't then flake
