Monobloc mixer tap problem

We've just got round to fitting a monobloc mixer tap we were given unused some time ago with no instructions, but the fitting was pretty straightforward. It works by lifting (tilting back) a handle on the top and turning the handle to either the left or right to control the heat of the water. When it is turned on it is fine, the water is at sufficient pressure to be directed into the bowl. The problem is, when it is turned off it doesn't stop straight away. It dribbles briefly and as it's fitted over a freestanding bowl the water goes over the side of the bowl. Is there any adjustment that could be made inside it to make it stop straight away when the handle is lowered, ie it is turned off - and if there is, how do you usually open these things up as we can't work it out.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

There are often adjustments for flow and temperature but not dribbling which can be caused by water expansion or air getting in to allow water out of the spout. Check that the water diffuser in the spout is fitted properly.

Thanks for your advice Stanleyman - I'll have a go at the spout arrangement at the weekend. I dread to think what will happen when the washer needs replacing if I can't work out a way of taking it apart!
