I am moving into a new house soon and it is currently like a squat. It is filthy I have got 4 weeks to get it clean from top to bottom. I know I am going to need a steam cleaner for the minging oven and work tops, but what would you suggest to be a must when cleaning?

Personally, I'd get a professional team in - they have the machines, the chemicals, and the know-how to do the job in a quarter of the time it will take you to do it. I know it costs, but you are buying some free time, and energy, so indulge. When we rented a house while ours was extended, the house we rented was in a real state - unlived in for about four years. We got a team in, they blitzed it, and it was fantastic, gleaming clean, smelt fresh, and I was delighted to pay them.

i agree with AH, sounds like a big job which may unexpectedly require hiring steam claener, carpet cleaners etc etc, when the firm will have all that uncluded. you could then spen the rest of the time decorating etc

if money is a problem, prehaps you could do all the smaller jobs, then get them in for the challenges

you can hire a rug doctor from Homebase or Focus for less than 15 a day - and the result is pretty amazing - especially when you empty out the waste box - I seemed to have several bucketfuls of sand in my lounge carpet and we havent had a sandpit for 6 years!!

Yes, if you can possibly afford it, I'd be tempted to call in some professional cleaners. You're under enough stress as it is, trying to get ready for your move.

Don't know whether Molly Maids is a national franchise but if you don't know where to find somebody, any estate agent who handles property to let might be able to point you in the right direction as I expect dirty houses are a fairly frequent problem.

Thank you all I didnt think of that, I will put my feet up!

Jif mouse is the way forward, from walls to kitchens to windows (also great for tobaco stains), spray it on, wait 5 mins and then wipe off, you'd be amazed at how well it works. As has been mentioned for floors use the rug doctor from focus, cheap and a lot easier/quicker and better than home vax's. For the cooker, either use a cooker cleaner ( about 50) or bin it and buy a new one ( 200 or so).

As for steam cleaners i borrowed my mums a while back and wasnt impressed.

Paying somebody to do it for you, i've no idea how much they cost, but would like to bet with a litle time and effort you could do it yourself a lot better and a whole lot cheaper.

I would like to suggest you to taking the advice of professional cleaners. They can give you the best idea for cleaning a house with positive results for cleaning.
