Council green waste collection

Anyone ABers know much about large scale composting? Our council has just written to us to say they can no longer collect uncooked fruit & veg in the green waste collection as it doesn't "produce the right type of soil conditioner/compost". They will now only take grass cuttings, twigs & prunings.

Surely vegetable matter is pretty much all the same? Are they correct in what they say or is it just a cost-cutting scheme?

They've probably just realised that the methane levels arising from the stuff they have already buried (but told you they were composting) has reached critical mass.

You can only pity the poor slobs they employ to check your green bins to make sure you are towing the line.

If you have a garden, you can compost your fruit and veg waste, as well as lots of other things like teabags. Then you can lay it over your plants, a great free mulch.
