Can anybody help? The tiles inside my shower cubicle and shower tray keep developing a coating of 'something' that is a pale orange in colour. It does clean off easily, but I have no idea what is causing it. I've thought of the obvious i.e. soap, shower gel, shampoo etc, but that doesn't seem to be it .

Has anybody any idea what is causing this problem and is there anything I can do to prevent this happing.

Thanks in advance.

I think its like a soap residue, I suppose the only way to avoid this happening is using a shower cleaner after every use ??
On the off chance you have a water softener installed, you'll find some brands of softener "salt" contain greater amounts of potassium than others. Those often leave a pinkish residue...
What colour is the soil in your area?
in our area its oxide red and we have these build ups in the showers aswell :)

We havn't got a water softner installed, so it cannot be that. I don't think it's the soil in our area. So Sozzie I think it's a case of I'm just gonna have to use a shower cleaner after every use!!!

However, thank you all for replying

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I have the same thing in my shower and it is driving me mad. It looks quite unpleasant, with a great deal of elbow grease some of it does shift but there must be an easier way.

No sorry Billi. Have not found out the reason why yet. It's annoying as like us, I know of other people who have the same probem and nobody seem's to know what causes it.

And as you probably feel no matter how much you try, the shower never looks completly clean, especially the grout. If I do find a solution I will let you know.

Hi
My tiler told me this is caused by shampoo and the only solution is to thoroughly clean the shower after every use:-(

Kazxe, thanks for that. A few months ago we changed the bathroom suite and re-tiled it, since then every time the shower is used I spray it with the leave on shower cleaner spray and the problem has gone.
So i guess that was cause.
