is taking the window out a big job?

Hi,

I would be really grateful if someone could help me. my fianc� and I are moving into our first home. we had our settee delivered on friday...and it wont fit. it cant go trhough the front door because of the L shaped porchway, and whilst it will go throught he back door if we took the UPVC frame off, it wont go through the door which is between the kitchen and lounge.

So it looks liek we will have to get someone (probably a builder friend)to take the front UPVC window out. i am really scared about this as it sounds like a big job and we have no experience in anything like this. Can someone advise whether this is a big job, has anyhtign liek this happened to anyone else?

When we had our bed delivered, it wouldn't go upstairs. we had a glazer come round and take out the glass (sealed unit) - not the window. It was a easy job (considering it was on first floor) and if memeory serves, it cost me �30 2 years ago - and they halped get the bed up through the window!

Last year, my builder took the sealed units out of a different window as he was moving a lot of bricks - again - a relatively simpe job.

Having watched them put in my new windows a couple of years ago, there was nothing to it, such a simple job! But easier and tidier would be to do as Oneeyedvic suggests, just take out the glazed unit, the trims holding it in place will just clip out it you carefully prise them. And then once you're ready to put the unit back, just make sure the packers are in place then snap the trims back in! Good luck!

we had to with our settee, my partner done it, it was basically a case of taking beading off and unscrewing. but if your worried unfortunatley expect to pay through the nose for a glazier to do it for you.
