What is the price difference between an air brick and an engineering brick?

Class B Engineering brick, about 60p each

Nowadays the air bricks are a plastic louvred thing, price about �4 or �5.

The old 9" terracotta air bricks no longer conform to air flow safety standards for certain gas appliances. The narrower ones can still be used below the floorline for general ventilation.

I find this question and the answers a wonderful demonstration of what I so often get into discussions about: Why is it that Britain is so full of mysterious jargon ? Looking at the replies I have an awful feeling that sebandbay is not really much nearer to the answer - I certainly am not although perhaps there are clues. Could it be that one is solid and the other specifically designed for ventilation - what in fact works as central cooling ? Can anyone tell me why left and right will not do (off/near/on/far sides of cars) and one cannot count 1,2,3,4.... so absolutely everyone understands ("brace" of shot birds), etc., etc. ? Or am I trying to spoil things for somebody ?

I assume Seb perfectly well knows the difference and the question was fully answered by Sddsn.
My answer was only to ensure that after such careful planning the job wouldn't need to be redone. Pretty unlikely from the sound of things as Engineering bricks are only normally used below the floorline anyway.
Jargon? It's just the name of things.
