We have moved in to a Edwardian house which has a textured painted walls in the lounge. A decorator says it is like a plastic two part mixture that was used many years ago to give a hardwearing not crackable finish to the walls. It has a ripple like texture and is not abasive to touch. Firstly what is it? and secondly how can I make a substitute to patch where it is damaged.

I have something called Lincrusta in my house which is a wall covering comprising rigid sheets of textured material made of a cross between plaster and putty. It was popular in Edwardian and Victorian times because it allowed texture to be added to walls like wallpaper. Anaglypta still make it and may be able to advise on repairs.
