Does anybody know the best way to grow trees from acorns and Horse Chestnuts indoors. I want to create miniture versions of the trees. I tried just putting them in soil, leaving them on the windowsill and watering them but they just rotted! Thanks in anticipation.

The best way to create minature trees is to look around until you find one that has started to grow ... then dig it up and put it in a small then pot take it home, leave it in the garden and start to train it. We live in the country and there are loads in the hedgerows .. Rowen is a good one to start with. You will find it very difficult to germinate trees indoors .. if you do want to try then plant them in a pot outside ... but don't hold your breath as it takes a long time.

Thanks Wendy, very helpful, you've given me a task for the weekend !
Good Luck and let me know how you go on.
I suspect, and it is only a hunch, that acorns etc. need to 'mature' before they will germinate. Try placing them in a dark cool place for three month, then plant them in slightly damp potting mix and don't water them until they sprout. Don't put them in front of the window though, gets to hot in the sun, even in winter.
