Growing trees Indoors
4 Answers
Does anybody know the best way to grow trees from acorns and Horse Chestnuts indoors. I want to create miniture versions of the trees. I tried just putting them in soil, leaving them on the windowsill and watering them but they just rotted! Thanks in anticipation.

We live in the country and there are loads in the hedgerows .. Rowen is a good one to start with. You will find it very difficult to germinate trees indoors .. if you do want to try then plant them in a pot outside ... but don't hold your breath as it takes a long time.
I suspect, and it is only a hunch, that acorns etc. need to 'mature' before they will germinate. Try placing them in a dark cool place for three month, then plant them in slightly damp potting mix and don't water them until they sprout. Don't put them in front of the window though, gets to hot in the sun, even in winter.
