Indoor Gardening

I live in a top floor flat and don't have a garden but was reading an article the other day about growing vegetables indoors.

Can anyone give me any advice on this - particularly tomatoes (apparently there is a variety that grows in a hanging basket). I have grown herbs in a window box but would like to be a bit more adventurous as sometimes the shop bought veg taste a bit bland!!
