I guess they look OK but they are about twice the price of a traditional wooden one

I was thinking of getting a few laying hens, and investigated the eggloo. It seemed quite pricey for what it was, and I thought I could either make a pen or buy a small wooden one for less. There is a website(s) about keeping hens (can't for the life of me think what it is), I think it's something to do with the henkeepers association. They will have loads of information. If you are into DIY, on ebay you can buy CDs with boatloads of plans for building wooden structures which may contain a plan for a henhouse. Also if you go to your local shed manufacturer (Yellow Pages, Yell.com) he will almost certainly be able to produce something.
PS I believe the bird flu scare has been hyped out of all proportion, but have put the hen keeping on hold until everything calms down and we will not see a mass cull of all hens etc.
