Knocking on front door... grrr...

I shall try and keep this short.

I am irritated by people knocking on my front door, be they utility types trying to sell me things i don't want, double glazing types or neighbour's kids wanting their ball back (several times a day).

If i put a note on my door stating that i would like only those who have a delivery for me to knock, would i be 'within my rights' to get really annoyed with anyone who still knocked?

I sound like a right miserable cow, but i'm not... i work from home and the constant interruptions drive me nuts!

All opinions most welcome :0)

Nice suggestion. Thanks trulli. I have looked in local hardware shops/B&Q etc, but haven't seen anything like that at all.

If it came with '...AND STOP KICKING YOUR F**KING BALL INTO MY GARDEN YOU GROTTY LITTLE SH1TE' i would be delighted!

I totaly agree re balls etc. Our council has banned all ball games from being played on the street. Yipee!! As for cold calling it drives me up the wall also. The worst are the religous lot who call around 9am at the weekend. If it`s RAINING I`ll keep them at the door, pretend to listen to their crap & eventually tell them "Not interested".
My gate is kept locked and I have a video phone so I can see who is calling.

I also have a sign alongside the bell stating 'no cold callers, no preachers, no business callers without prior appointment. Please have id ready for inspection'.

It works. :)
I put a sign on my garden gate, which opens onto a narrow lane between gardens "Please do not let your dog foul in my garden. If I catch it, I will kill it". Nobody's complained, and luckily, no dogs have been cr*pping in my garden lately either! As for "within our rights", I figured the worst that could happen was that someone from the Council would ask me to take it down, and then I'd ask them to do something about the problem.....
