Eucalyptus tree. part 2
10 Answers
We had someone come to look at our tree tonight and quoted 100 pound which I didn't think was too bad. Husband had other ideas. He had taken down one of the branches which was causing some trouble and now decided he will do it himself. I can't bear the thought as I can see more damage arising. What would you do, let him get on with it or go ahead and get someone in.

It grew like Topsy ! We live on the coast and when it is windy it is very windy and it used to worry me that it would come down !
My husband and son chopped it down themselves last year. They lopped as much as possible off the branches and then took a chain saw to it. We have quite a big garden so it came down O.K spacewise. Might be different in a smaller garden though. If this is the case then it would be better to get a man in. You don't want it crashing through a window or something.A local chap came round and took ours all away to be composted in a shredder thing and it cost 50. We then put some stuff on the stump to kill it and it is now nearly all gone.
Good luck whatever you decide to do.

This is what worries me. My garden is medium sized but it is quite stocked with shrubs. The tree in question in just behind the fish pond and nr to the neighbouring fence. Although this fence is ours. My husband is not into gardening so tends to just let things drop where they will. I am leaning towards getting someone in for peace of mind.
Chainsaw or hand saw plus inexperienced user can equal hospital plus weeks off work or worse. Most people think they can do it and mostly they get away with it, but there is always the chance of injury or property damage. I have seen experienced and trained chain saw users injuries and believe me you don't want that type of injury. The chain is wide as is a hand saw blade and you don't get a nice clean slice that medics can stitch up; you get a gaping wound with flesh missing and it doesn't heal. I was trained to use saws years ago but have used them so infrequently that I don't touch them anymore. I leave it to the people who use them everyday.
till having trouble posting so Part 2!
The other thing is the rubbish that has to be cleared up; again most people think it is a quick trip down to the local tip but the rubbish usually takes longer to clear than felling the tree. Unless there is plenty of clear space, your husband is good with practical jobs and you can deal with the rubbish I would think very carefully before taking it on.
If it's big enough to be climbed, then 100 is very cheap to take it down ... even better if they take away the rubbish too.
I would normally charge around 250 to take down a tree of about 30ft in height, and cart the wood away ...
One thing to remember .. you DO gt what you pay for ... the 100 boys might do more harm than good ...
