I'm taking down one side of a non-supporting 'stud' wall. It's very old and consists of many slats of wood rendered with plaster, and is to be replaced with modern plaster board and plaster. When I rip the old one out, will I find the door frame is attached to two of the vertical studs and therefore will remain in place, or am I going to have to support it? Any ideas?

The framing for doors, either interior or exterior, using two studs per side has been a standard here in the U.S. for years, maybe centuries. I helped tear down an old house that had been built in 1849 and all the doors and windows were thus framed. This was even before the standard sized 2 X 4's of today when they actually measured a full 2" X 4" and therefore had more strength and stiffness...

Hi,

door frame will be attached to stud work,be carefull though when pulling down old laths and plaster,as this plaster contains a lot of lime, wear a mask and gloves,it might affect the skin on your hands if you don't wear the gloves,it will also make a hell of a lot of dust, don't breathe it in, good luck, Ray
