Why is it that when you wash white clothes with dark they take on some of the dark colour but when you wash, say a black and white top the black doesn't go into the white?

Just wondered!

Hi jennifer,

When made, they would have used colourfast dyes in the black and white top.

Not all one colour items will 'bleed' into the water, but it is best to be on the safe side when washing (just in case!) to not mix light and dark. After washing items you will soon see which ones are safe to go in together and the ones to be careful with!

and sometimes the colours do run in one garment.
Only usually happens with cheap clothes!! LOL :o))
