Cherry tree bugs

I have a small cherry tree which gets small black egg type insects on the far end leaves only. I have also noticed that there are always two or three ants in the leaf clusters when I pick them off. Could this be ants eggs or are the ants eating the mystery insects? Tried dfferent sprays but to no avail!

By what you describe, it looks to me like aphids, the presence of ant would help to confirm this, as they are "milked" rather like humans milking cows.
Spray the leaves of your cherry tree with dimethoat, heptenophos or pirimicarb. Keep an eye on it as repeat applications may be necessary.
Aphids will overwinter on surrounding bushes, at that time you can spray with tar-oil wash to kill the eggs. Good Luck.

These are a form of blackfly. For now just cut off and bag and bin the affected leaves and next year spray with any blackfly killer in early spring before the flower buds open. Repeat the spraying at fortnightly intervals for about 3-4 sprayings.
